François Dal – Handmade 2022 – (on stem) δ |

The least that can be said about this Semois pot is that its wood is eye-catching. A straight grain that has shown its potential from the very beginning of its realization. This is a variation of the ‘Semois Pot’, starting with a brandy bottom and ending with rounded rims. The chamber is cut particularly wide, with thick walls to accommodate ‘Semois’ type tobaccos in particular, but can also be suitable for ‘flake’ tobaccos. The shank is slightly conical and flares out towards the end, which is decorated with a blue/black cumberland washer and a second boxwood washer. The stem is cut from a blue/black cumberland bar from the German company “SEM” (Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur), which is known worldwide as the best quality ebonite. The straight and sometimes dancing flames of the briar are enhanced by an orange/yellow/golden stain and the shine obtained by micro-layers of shellac. The flock is made of Teflon and the shank is drilled to 4.2mm. The slot of the mouthpiece (concave cut) is well opened in V for an optimal draw. The briar, of Tuscan origin, has benefited from one year of drying at the supplier’s and four more years in my store.
