François Dal – Tradition 2017 – (on stem) δ |
Here is a rather particular model in the Tradition series since it is initially a bowl shape completely reworked both externally by deep and irregular twists but also internally by drilling a cavity into the shank (19mm long by 13mm wide), which allows to cool the smoke, effect known as ‘Reverse Calabash’. This inner chamber is here lined with ebonite to prevent the thin walls from darkening by absorbing tars and other elements carried by the smoke. The finish is lightly sandblasted. The stem is cut from a rod of colored ebonite ‘Prussian Blue’ of German quality. By these different modifications, this Bowl could very well have been considered as a ‘Handmade’ pipe, but since I did not realize it from the plateau, I classify it in the Tradition series. The concave slot of the mouthpiece is well open in V for an optimal draw. The briar has more than 25 years of drying in the drying roomss and granaries of Saint-Claude.
Produced in 2017, it is therefore stamped ‘Tradition 2017′.
