Here’s a variant of the Bulldog shape, in sandblasted finish and red-burgundy stain. I tried to ally a thick head rich in wood with a large but thin shank, and somewhat short in final. The result is a bit atypical with well marked angles and the possibility to set it. Colors seem for me to match well with a certain sobriety. The briar was relatively dense and di not allow to sand deep but a general pattern reveals beautiful and discrete rings. The stem is hand-cut from a bar of Prussian Blue ebonite from the renowned German company SEM (“Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur GmbH”), one of the leading producers of top-quality ebonite. The flock is made of Teflon (nylon that manages well the temperature variances) and the shank is drilled to 4.2mm. The concave-cut slot of the mouthpiece is open in a V-shape for optimum draw. The briar, of Corsican origin according to the supplier, has benefited from one year’s and half drying at the supplier’s and a further seven years in my storeroom.
