François Dal – Handmade 2024 – (on stem) δ |
I’m delighted to introduce you this squat Tomato model. The shape is round, of course, with a very pleasant grip. The sandblasting reveals a few rings starting from the bark under the base of the stummel and rising towards the axis of the shank. This shank, adorned with tinted boxwood and briar rings, widens towards the stem to finish in a ‘kodak’ shape, giving it extra character. The stem is hand-cut from a bar of cumberland from the renowned German company SEM (“Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur GmbH”), a leading producer of top-quality ebonite. The flock is made of Teflon (a nylon that perfectly handles temperature variations) and the shank is drilled to 4.2mm. The slot of the mouthpiece (concave-cut) is open in a V-shape for optimum draw. The briar, of Italian origin, has benefited from a year and a half of drying at the supplier’s and a further eight years in my storeroom.
