François Dal – Handmade 2017 – (on stem) δ |
Worked from a gray fossil oak block, here is a short pipe called ‘Chubby’, with swollen head and shortened leg. It is the fruit of a command in this direction. I worked the block so as to keep the rings in the horizontal and the sandblasted finish makes it possible to underline this outline. The end of the short shank is adorned with a thin silver support ring and the stem is carved in a ‘Prussian Blue’ colored ebonite. The flock is teflon and the shank drilled at 4.2mm. The slot of the mouthpiece is well open in V for an optimal draw. This bog oak, of Ukrainian origin, is said by the supplier to have been carbon dated and is approximately 5500-5600 years old.
