I’m delighted to show you this Acorn model. Shown here in a sandblasted version with beautiful ring grain starting from the base, it has more than respectable dimensions and a large chamber (group 5 equivalent). The chocolate stain matches the colors of the stem beautifully, and the end of the shank is adorned with a ‘sand’ ebonite accent for transition. I particularly like the overall shape of this model, with the particular curves of the head and shank giving it a certain dynamism. It won’t be my last of its kind! The stem is hand-cut from a bar of Special Edition ‘Python’ Ebonite from the renowned German company SEM (“Schönberger Ebonite Manufaktur GmbH”), a leading producer of top-quality ebonite. The flock is made of Teflon (a nylon that perfectly handles temperature variations) and the shank is drilled to 4.2mm. The slot of the mouthpiece (concave-cut) is open in a V-shape for optimum draw. The briar, of Italian origin, has benefited from a year and a half of drying at the supplier’s and a further eight years in my storeroom.
