François Dal – Handmade 2017 – (on stem) δ |
Who has not secretly dreamed of smoking in a long reading pipe (also called churchwarden) like the famous magician Gandalf in ‘The Lord of the Rings’? It was perhaps the wish of the smoker who ordered me this work with criteria for sober tones, recalling the forestry theme and a total length between 35 and 40cm. Not being equipped to drill on such a length of stem, I then proposed the addition of a retractable extension, partially turned in exotic wood and his choice was on the Macassar ebony. The stem is turned in cumberland (ebonite stained in the mass) green/black which, without pouring in the garish colors, does not lack originality. This way of turning stems is a specificity of Master-pipier Pierre Morel and I invite you to visit his site: http://www.pierremorelpipes.fr/pipes-disponibles-pierre-morel-1.htm. The different flocs (stem and extension) are teflon and the shank drilled at 4.2mm. The slot of the mouthpiece is well open in V for optimal draw. The briar has benefited from a year and a half of drying at the supplier in Tuscany.
