François Dal – ADLP Handmade 2018

Here is another entirely handmade pipe, made to order for some members of the group ‘Autour de la Pipe’. It is an oscillating shape between the ‘Egg’ and the ‘Brandy’, semi-curved and Danish-inspired.  The present model, cut wider, is sandblasted and reveals some rings, the finish is stained dark mahogany (the color is actually more aubergine than the photos suggest). The shank is adorned with a double washer (cumberland & boxwood) and the stem is made of cumberland.  The floc is teflon and the shank drilled at 4.2mm. The slot of the mouthpiece (concave cut) is open in V for optimal draw. The specificity of the order was to be able to make these models in a briar as old as possible, which I could respect because I still have some plateaux acquired at the pipemaker David Enrique, who had himself chosen at Marco Biagini, and David was able to estimate their age at 25 years minimum.
