François Dal – Handmade 2017 – (on stem) δ |
Having grabbed a few gray fossil bog oak blocks, I tackled the Apple shape and added a colorful ebonite pipe (handmade of course), a very pretty color oscillating between Prussian blue and Petrol blue. The shape of the stem, slightly domed, gives to my sense a pleasant dynamic to this shape and a successful continuity of the shank towards the stem. The shank is protected by a silvered brass support ring. This fossil oak is not particularly dense wood, I recommend a precoating to protect the chamber during the first tests (do not hesitate to tell me if you wish). The flock is teflon and the shank drilled at 4.2mm. The slot of the mouthpiece is well open in V for an optimal draw. This bog oak, of Ukrainian origin, is said by the supplier to have been carbon dated and is approximately 5500-5600 years old.
