François Dal – Tradition 2018 – (on stem) δ |
I was lucky, a few months ago, to perform the pipe of the year for the Spanish forum ‘El Rincon de la Pipa’.
Their choice being focused on a shape that is very dear to me: the long pencil shank Liverpool in Black Lunar finish and silver ring. Elegance and a strong character qualify this model. After much hesitation about the smooth ring considered too sober, we agreed to have the rings chiseled by hand by a French artisan-jeweler according to a model of arabesques that I had provided. This work gives the model a refinement that contrasts deliberately with the raw side brought by rustication. The stems were handcut from cumberland rods of German quality. The flocs are teflon (nylon) and the rods drilled 4.2mm. The buttons of the stems were opened well in V for an optimal draw. The briar, from the workshops Chretin Saint-Claude (which closed in the 80s-90), have more than 30 years of drying!
As a surprise gift, I also made assorted cupstampers. The following photos show the different stages of this production.
Thank you again to all the members of this group who trusted me for this.
