I have the pleasure to offer you this very old model of the Shell series, the nomenclature of this Dunhill ‘111/1’ is not listed. As much as the 111 refers to its ‘Billiard’ shape of Group 3 with tapered fishtail bit, I do not know what the / 1 means. Its markings are not very readable but we can easily guess the first letters PAT which indicate the patent number, the figures that follow are very difficult to read but it is easy to read 34 at the end, which almost certainly confirms the patent 417574/34 widespread in Europe. It would date from 1947 as evidenced by the small ‘7’ exhibiting after ‘Made in England’. It still contains its internal metal tube (‘innertube’). As shown in the photos, the upper part of the head was surmounted by a cap of silvered metal, bumped in several places. This work has been very well done, it’s a safe bet that it is a repair in Dunhill workshops. On one of the profile photos, you can see a crack that leaves the cape and goes down about 3cm, the pipe is not intended to be smoked, or only knowingly. This lady of 70 years remains in my opinion a beautiful collectible.

This pipe has been smoked and shows a crack in a side of the bowl.
The stummel is in good esthetical condition, except for the crack mentioned in the description.
The chamber of the pipe is acceptable, its walls have a slight cake.
The stem is in very good condition and there is no tooth mark and no claws.
This pipe was briefly cleaned and disinfected, you can obviously continue cleaning according to your own criteria.
